Twilight

Made you look. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I must admit, I didn't read the books, see the movies or design a handmade shirt with puff-paint to wait in line at Wal-Mart at midnight to get the last book. (I love you Randi and Dena!) But, I have been and currently am obsessed with a variety of other trends. So what can I say, you know? Books I am currently reading are, of course, the proverbial "Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy" as well as "What to Expect When you are Expecting." That is catchy, isn't it. Just finished Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons" and next will be C.S. Lewis' "A Grief Observed".

A Memory

One of the leaders, or members of the Quorm of the Twelve Apostles, passed away last week. I was thinking of a memory I have of Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin. I was in the MTC during the summer, when most of the General Authorities of the church take some "time off" to spend with their families.



We hadn't yet had a member of the 12 come and speak to us. A rumor started to circulate that the following week there would be an Apostle at our Tuesday devotional.But, it just so happened that week our branch was assigned to sit in the overflow areas, because the MTC is so full over the summer. Well, my little kasama and I wouldn't stand for that. There was one way to get into the main auditorium...you have to join the choir.



Did either of us have a pleasant voice? NO. Did we particularly enjoy joining choirs? NO. Well, we did it anyways. And guess who came that week to speak? I don't even remember. Ha! But, two weeks later, we finally did get a visit from an apostle, Elder Wirthlin. I love how his power is not felt in his booming voice or controlling presence.

It is the quiet, soft, and constant dedication and love that he is known for. You almost miss the profound meaning in his words. I also loved how his talk last conference was absolutely hilarious. Here is a link to my very favorite talk by him.
